Setting the timezone permanently on a Raspberry Pi

During the switch from daylight saving time it turned out that my RPI was not having the correct timezone. Instead of Europe/Amsterdam it had UTC as its default timezone.

First I edited /etc/timezone but that didn’t seem to work. The way to go was with:

sudo cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Amsterdam /etc/localtime

This command made the timezone settings permantly stored, so they are not lost after a reboot.
