Yesterday I decided I wanted to have a netbook. Since I do a lot of router configurations for my customers it would be nice to have very compact computer which does not have the weight of my MacBook Pro. The most common option for me was the Asus EEE pc, but recommended by a friend I explored other options. These other options turned out to be the MSI Wind, Samsung NC10 and the HP Mini 1000.
The looks of the HP mini 1000 were in mine opinion the best over the other three netbooks. I wanted to take the netbook with me on my vacation I was quite in a hurry. It turned out that the HP mini 1000 was just announced and not yet available in stores. Therefore my only options were the other three. The Samsung NC10 has an amazing 6-cell battery which provides between 4 and 6 hours of power. The latter numbers depend on enabled features like bluetooth, Wifi and the screen brightness.
Since I was looking for a really long lasting battery, the Samsung was really a good option. The decision making argument for me was the almost full sized keyboard of the Samsung. The Asus EEE pc has really small shift keys, while the Samsung has large bar shaped shift keys. The keyboard and the battery life made me decide to buy the Samsung NC10. It is currently running both Windows XP and Kubuntu 8.10.
