Google Sitemap generator plugin for WordPress
February 10th, 2009
Google webmaster tools is a nice place for uploading your sitemap. There are several sites around which can create a sitemap automatically. One problem: your weblog has dynamic content. This means you have to update your sitemap every time you add a new post to your blog…

But there is hope. Arne Brachhold developed a really nice WordPress plugin which regenerates your sitemap every time you add a new post to your blog. There are two ways to install this plugin:
Solution 1
- In your WordPress admin go to plugins
- From the menu choose “add new”
- In the searchbox type: “sitemap” and press [search]
- In the list a plugin called “Google XML sitemaps” shows up, click “install”.
- After the installation is done, choose “activate”.
- You are now ready to setup your sitemap settings in the “XML-sitemap” section of your settings.
Solution 2
- Goto Arne Bachhold’s website and download the plugin manually
- Goto the WordPress admin plugin section.
- From the menu choose “add new”.
- Click on [browse] and navigate to your plugin zip file.
- Activate the plugin.
- You are now ready to setup your sitemap settings in the “XML-sitemap” section of your settings.
It is a great plugin, becare though. you can better not include your archives, and your tag overview and so on. real bad for google optimization. put a robots.txt noindexing your archives and tags.

I think that if you use post excerpts on your archive and tagpages, it will not influence google optimization negatively. I’ve read about this somewhere on the interwebs.
Oh, and the link should be this one. sorry!
